If she makes a fourth Christmas album, Dolly Parton might want to call Carly Pearce next time. Pearce celebrates Christmas with a powerful rendition of “Mary, Did You Know?” among a winter landscape.

Pearce’s performance was spotlighted quite literally. The singer glowed in the middle of the stage, a spotlight lighting up her appearance. The stage behind her had been decorated with various Christmas trees and also the star of Bethlehem. Pearce performed the song as part of Parton’s Christmas special, which aired on Dec. 4.

On Instagram, Pearce wrote, “I have loved @dollyparton my whole life. It was such an honor to be a part of her Christmas special last night & sing her rendition of one of my favorites, ‘Mary Did You Know?’ Thank you for having me, Dolly!”

Dolly Parton Recorded the Song for ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’

“Mary, Did You Know?” features religious imagery and celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. The song explores the trials and tribulations that Christ faced across his life. The narrator of the song asks his mother, Mary, if she knew of the things he would do when she was pregnant with him.

Michael English first recorded the song in 1991. But Mark Lowry wrote the lyrics all the way back in 1984. Since then, several music artists have made the song their own, including Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd in 1996. For her third Christmas album, “A Holly Dolly Christmas,” Parton put her own spin on the classic Christmas tune.

Parton gave a majestic rendition of the song herself during the Dec. 2 “Christmas in Rockefeller Center.” Pearce sang the song during Parton’s own special “Dolly Parton & Friends’ Live Holiday Special.” Parton will also have another upcoming holiday special. Named after her album, the special will feature music from Parton’s album to celebrate the season.

“When Dolly Parton calls and tells you she wants to do a Christmas show, you don’t hesitate,” said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music & Live Events/Alternative & Reality for CBS. “There’s only one Dolly Parton, and we are so excited to be bringing her to viewers this holiday season.”

The one-hour special will air on Sunday (Dec. 6) at 7:30 p.m. CT on CBS.
