Carrie Underwood Offers Holiday Hope During A “Trying” Year

During an interview, Underwood said she’s grateful she could release the album amidst the chaos of 2020.

“I planned this album long before this year smacked us all in the face. And I’m so glad I did,” Underwood says. ” … I’m a faithful person and to get to sing these songs, it just put me in a place of joy and peace and hope. It was a blessing in a trying year.”

Along with her album, Underwood also teamed up with HBO Max for the special, My Gift: A Christmas Special From Carrie Underwood. During the special, Underwood joins John Legend, to perform “Hallelujah.” You can also watch adorable behind the scenes footage of Underwood’s collaboration with her five-year-old son, Isaiah. Together, they perform the song, “Little Drummer Boy.”

Underwood Wants To “Sing From My Heart”

Underwood says that musicians often get caught in trying to make music that will appeal to everyone. However, the Grammy winner says that she didn’t want to do that with My Gift.

“You can try to make music for other people. And (think), ‘What are they going to want me to do, or not want me to do?’ And that’s always going to end up being not genuine,” Underwood says. “At the end of the day, that’s not something that I want to spend my time doing. I want to sing what I know, I want to sing from my heart,” Underwood continued.
