There were several performers who took part in the special CMT Giants tribute to the late country music star Charley Pride. One of those was former Hottie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker.

In honor of Pride, who passed away in December 2020 at the age of 86, many popular artists performed their versions of some of his most famous songs. It was Darius Rucker who was tasked with performing Pride’s song, “Someone Loves You Honey” in the televised special.

Also, the 55-year-old Rucker shared a clip from his performance on social media on Monday, Aug. 30. “Missing my friend, Charley Pride! Watch ‘Someone Loves You Honey’ from #CMTGiants here: https://umgn.us/DRCMTGiants,” Rucker also posted on his Twitter account. You can watch that clip below.

Darius Rucker Covers Charley Pride Song That Was Released In 1978

The song covered by Darius Rucker during the CMT Giants tribute to Charley Pride was released more than 40 years ago. Pride released “Someone Loves You Honey” in 1978, according to Country Thang Daily. This single was the second he released off of his album, “Someone Loves You Honey.”

Pride scored the 20th No. 1 hit song of his career with this track. After it reached the top spot on the charts, this song most recently covered by Darius Rucker held that position for two weeks. “Someone Loves You Honey” was written by Canadian songwriter Don Devaney.

Charley Pride was not the first person to record the song. The first person to do so was Johnny Rodriguez. His version was part of his 1974 album, “Songs About Ladies and Love.”

The next artist to perform the song was Brenda Lee. Also, it was Lee’s version that came to the attention of producer Jerry Bradley. It was Bradley who brought the song to Charley Pride. Bradley described “Someone Loves You Honey” as a “triple-A-rated song.”

It was Bradley who believed that Pride could make it a hit. Turns out, he was right about that.
