WATCH: Dierks Bentley Performs ‘The Woods’ At Pre-Fame 2012 Show

Ask any country music singer about “paying their dues” and you’ll hear stories. Dierks Bentley did his time before becoming a household name.

Bentley was recorded during a show back at a place called Joe’s Bar in February 2012 in Chicago. He is singing “The Woods,” which is the title track off of his 2012 album.

The song endearingly asks a girl to go with him to this place where a lot of firsts happened in his life. They include kissing a girl, smoking, and other hijinks.

“The Woods” spells out the song’s main emphasis in its chorus.

“Is where I smoked my first smoke
Drank beer from a can
Kissed the first girl,
Skipped school with my friends
Where I went to turn bad times to good
Come on lay with me, no better place to be
Our little secrets safe in these trees,
‘Cause out here baby it’s just understood
What happens in the woods, stays in the woods”

Take a look at Bentley’s performance from 2012.

Dierks Bentley Says First Concert Ever Wasn’t a Country One

It might be easy to assume that Bentley’s first live concert experience would be connected to country music. Unfortunately, no one will put Bon Jovi and Skid Row in the country music category.

Yet Bentley said that his first concert included these rock bands. He said that he enjoyed seeing John Bon Jovi and his band, but there were other things on his mind. Like girls.

“A lot of times, if we have a B stage where we can get close to the grass, I tell the guys up in the back, ‘I’m sure there are some guys up there not even watching,’” Bentley said.

“You’re probably here to meet girls, probably staring at a girl right now. And I can relate because that’s how I spent my first concert. I told that story to Bon Jovi, and he said, ‘That’s the sign of a good concert.’”

Bentley Releases New Single ‘Gone’ Earlier This Year

While performing live has been put on the back burner because of COVID-19 restrictions, it hasn’t kept Dierks Bentley from releasing new music to his fans.

“Gone” was released by the Capitol Records Nashville label in October. It went live on country music radio stations and streaming services at the same time.

Firstly, the song was written by Nicolle Galyon, Ben Johnson, and Niko Moon. Secondly, it was produced by David Garcia. Thirdly, Bentley puts together dobro, piano, and guitar sounds to make “Gone” stand out.

Bentley has 19 No. 1 country hit songs to his name. Here’s the official video for “Gone.”
