Eric Church, Chris Stapleton Team Up Again at The Ryman
Both Stapelton and Church have had remarkable success in their careers. The CMA Awards nominated the two for the coveted “Entertainer of the Year” Award. It was a well-earned and unsurprising nomination considering Church and Stapleton’s 2017 tours entertained hundreds of thousands of fans and sold out many shows.
In 2017, the two came together again at the annual kickoff to CMA Music Festival at the Ryman. The event ran for nearly four hours and featured some epic once-in-a-lifetime performances.
During the night, Church brought out Stapleton, who opened for the Chief during his recent Outsiders World Tour. Church also called upon Phillip Sweet and Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town. Along with Stapleton’s wife Morgane, the group again performed The Weight,” with each vocalist taking a verse. It was indeed an only-in-Nashville type of event.
Later on, the group threw in a plot twist as Church began strumming the opening chords to Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush.” The country alpha males joined in with Fairchild to sing the alluring tune, captivating the crowd the entire time.
