WATCH: Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood Perform ‘Love Will Always Win’ on Oprah in 2006

by Jon D. B.

Few couples in country music have the history and chemistry of Garth Brooks  and Trisha Yearwood. The two have known each other, and performed together for decades. Their friendship eventually led to their wedding in December of 2005, and the rest is country history.

Part of that history comes in the form of this appropriately loving rendition of “Love Will Always Win” live on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Together, the newly-married couple gives one of their first performances since their wedding for this 2006 episode.

As for the song itself, “Love Will Always Win” is a special track from Garth Brooks ‘ album The Lost Sessions. It was a hit for both artists at the time of release and reached the coveted Billboard Top Country Songs list in 2006.

Many fans, however well versed in Brook’s work, though, are less familiar with The Lost Sessions – making their title quite apropos. This is in large part due to this album being contained within The Limited Series – a studio album of previously unreleased material from Garth Brooks that spans 1995 to 2000. Original copies of Sessions are rare as a result. The album would later release separately after Brooks’ marriage to Yearwood, also in 2006.

Fans received a treat that same year when the two decided to perform the rare song for The Oprah Winfrey Show. This live recording of “Love Will Always Win” features raw, unedited vocals from the married duo within passionate performances.

At the time, Yearwood was hot off the release of her latest studio album, Jasper Country, the previous year. The album is a talking point with Oprah just before the performance begins:

Moreover, all of Garth Brooks’ best work comes from the heart, and his marriage to Trisha Yearwood makes this easy for him, it seems. These two lovebirds have performed countless duets in their decades of friendship and marriage. As far as duets are concerned, though, there’s none more famous than “Baby It’s Cold Outside”. The Christmas staple is a unique, old-fashioned pop hit that has been covered by nearly every big name in every genre.

The sweetest of them all, however, comes from country’s cutest couple. The true love between Brooks and Yearwood gives the song new life and true meaning. Performing together during New York City’s biggest holiday event, Christmas in Rockefeller Center, the couple’s chemistry and talent again shine through for this perfect cover.
