The two put their own signature twist on the song. Brooks’ fans may like argue that his country twang outmatched that of Cooper’s. And Yearwood more than held her own when compared to Gaga’s Academy Award-winning performance.
“Shallow” was featured in the 2019 film A Star is Born. While Cooper and Gaga’s on-screen chemistry made that movie a success, Brooks and Yearwood have 15 years of marriage together. They closed their live performance with a kiss.
“I’m doing my best not to cry, but just hearing you sing that kills me,” Brooks told Yearwood after the performance. He became choked up by the duet. “It is beautifully written.”
A Fan Requested Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Sing The Song
Fans can thank themselves for bringing the cover to life. Brooks revealed a fan named Ali asked the couple to cover the song during a Facebook Live event. After performing a rendition of the song for fun, the couple quickly fell in love with the tune. Both Brooks and Yearwood decided to record the song as a single.
“From the moment Ms. Yearwood and I first performed ‘Shallow’ we have just had so much fun with performing it, and so have the fans, that it just felt right to share this with country radio,” Brooks said in a statement. “Getting to sing this duet with the queen is really special and it’s a nice way to work up to the release of my album Fun coming out next month.”
The two have considered creating a music video for the song consisting of pictures throughout their lives. Yearwood and Brooks have known each other for over 30 years. Yearwood started her career playing on one of Brooks’ first albums.
The song will be featured on Brooks’ upcoming album Fun. The album is set to drop in November.
