Love country music and NASCAR? If so, Sunday (Feb. 14) was a perfect day for you, as country artist Luke Combs performed prior to the start of the Daytona 500.

In the midst of the Daytona 500 race celebrations and events, Combs talked with Andrew Kurland about the relationship between NASCAR and country music.

“Music and sports bring people together like nothing else,” Kurland says during the interview. He then asks Luke Combs: “How would fans in the stands here at a NASCAR race to a fan in the front row at one of your shows?”

Combs said he believes “there’s a lot of crossover” between his fans and fans of NASCAR. He also said he was happy to be performing live again after not playing a show in almost one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“For me to be here, I think it’s a great experience for the fan because, you know, we get an opportunity to see each other for the first time in a long time. … “Luke Combs says. “It’s just nice to see anybody in the stands. But, I do think it’s a lot of crossover, so you know, it’s great for me. I hope it’s great for NASCAR to have me. I’m excited.”

Kurland then talks to Combs about what songs the singer planned to perform during the pre-race concert on Sunday. “Was it tough picking a set list?” the host asks.

“I think it always is. But, when you have to whittle it down to five songs … I think two of the songs we’re doing today we’ve never played before because they were released during the pandemic,” Combs says. “We haven’t really done a show with these songs. That’s exciting. Makes it exciting for us. We’re not just playing stuff that we’re used to.”

Luke Combs also says he’s looking forward to the pre-race concert. “It’s going to me fun, man,” he adds.

Luke Combs Meets Richard Petty

If you’re going to be in Daytona to perform at one of the sport’s most popular races, you need to meet at least one driver. That’s what Luke Combs did while he was in Florida. To make it even better, he met NASCAR legend Richard Petty. The singer shared a photo of him with Petty on Twitter. It’s a great example of NASCAR and country music coming together.

“Great meeting Richard Petty this morning before the race,” Combs posted. Check out the photo below.

Fans of Petty and Combs were happy to see the driver and singer meet.

“Richard Petty is definitely a legend who I would like to meet in person. I loved watching him race, such a competitor and gentleman, you are very lucky! God Bless,” one fan posted in response to the photo. “What a great meeting that would be. Happy Valentines day to you all,” another said. “Two kings in that photo,” another said.
