Parents do some extraordinary things for their children sometimes. A Canadian man got a tattoo matching his son’s birthmark to cheer the boy up.

The entire process took 30 hours in a tattoo parlor chair. But sometimes there’s no price of time or pain for the love shared between a father and his son. Derek Prue Sr. wanted to make his son feel better about himself. The 8-year-old boy had been born with a large birthmark across an entire half of his chest.

The boy refused to go swimming because it required taking his shirt off in public. Or if he did, he would leave his shirt on. Prue, who lives in Alberta, Canada, decided to get the tattoo so his son wouldn’t feel alone.

“I knew he was self-conscious about it,” Prue told CBS. “I saw how he was reacting, and it made me want to do it so that he wouldn’t be the only one.”

The Tattoo Required 30 Hours and A Lot of Pain

Tony Gilbert who owns the Juicy Quill Tattoo parlor in Alberta was happy to help Prue. He thought it was a wonderful thing that Prue was doing for his son.

“I think it’s amazing to be able to comfort your son like that,” Gibert told CBS. “It’s more than just your kid seeing your name, or something, you get to actually, like, really change the way he feels about himself.”

But Prue didn’t realize the process would take the better half of two months. Over the course of six to eight weeks, Prue slowly transformed his chest to match his son’s birthmark. Despite the pain, it’s something he wouldn’t change for anything.

“It felt good to do it. It was a long process to do it. I thought it was going to be, like, a few hours. I’m kind of glad I didn’t know how long it was going to take,” Prue said. “Now we have the same marks for life.”
