Danica Patrick got philosophical on her podcast about her decision to walk away from NASCAR. The former driver also opened up about why she knew it was time for her to leave.

Patrick sat down for a long-form conversation with Aubrey Marcus, founder and CEO of Onnit, a holistic health and lifestyle brand, on her “Pretty Intense” podcast. They discuss health, drug use and psychedelic therapy, the dishonesty of drug manufacturers, and a host of other topics.

But Patrick opens up about why she walked away from racing and what it took to help her make that decision. That conversation starts around the 53-minute mark.

“I had to learn the difference between quitting and letting go,” she says. “Recognizing the signs. Feeling things, observing. Not being afraid of what’s coming. That gives you the opportunity to let go. Let go with grace.”

She said moving forward felt like a positive to her. Marcus agreed, saying that once you feel that way it is important to empower yourself to move on.

It’s similar to what she’s said in the past. She told Nightline in 2018 that racing wasn’t her passion anymore.

“It wasn’t in my heart anymore. What I love about racing was that ability to progress and get better and finish better and better and ultimately win. And I just felt like that was becoming less and less something that was in my control,” she said.

Danica Patrick has had a tough year

Danica Patrick had been in a long-term relationship with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but the two split up earlier this year. People began to get suspicious about a break-up when Patrick scrubbed her social media history of Rodgers.

She was spotted cheering on the Chicago Bears again, the New York Post reported. The Bears, who are divisional rivals of Green Bay, were Patrick’s favorite team growing up, but she cheered for Rodgers while they dated.

It’s been reported that Rodgers is now dating actress Shailene Woodley.

Aside from her difficult love life, Patrick’s winery was also recently destroyed in the California wildfires.

She opened up about the destruction of the Somnium winery in the Glass Fire on her Instagram. Patrick purchased the property in 2009 and built the vineyard from the ground up, according to NASCAR.

“I finally cried this morning at the idea that something I have spent so much time, money, effort, passion, patience, and did I mention money, on…. could just be gone,” she said. “The dirt is still there. But it’s almost impossible to get insurance because of how many fires have come through. Thanks a lot for that. So it will require the next level of all of those things I have already invested.”

In the post, Patrick said Somnium is Latin for dream. She thanked her followers for all their “prayers and good vibes.” She also encouraged them to open a bottle of wine and be with the ones they love.

“I invite you to join me tonight in opening up some wine with someone or many that you love and just have a blast,” Patrick said. “Tell stories and connect. Be present. Be here now.”

She plans to rebuild the winery, she said.
