After bad blood between quarterback Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans, fans rally to his support, but it is graciously denied.

After a string of poorly thought out trades, the firing of head coach Bill O’Brien, and a record of 4 and 12, there are rumors that Houston’s quarterback Deshaun Watson will ask to be traded.

Houston fans have called for a march in Houston in support of their quarterback. While flattered, the 25-year-old quarterback asks them to stand down due to the rising number of covid cases.

“I’m hearing there is a march planned on my behalf in Houston today. Although I am humbled, I ask that whoever is organizing the march cancel for the sake of public safety. Covid is spreading at a high rate & I don’t want any fans to unnecessarily expose themselves to infection.”

In addition, the hiring of general manager Nick Caserio didn’t sit well with Watson either. According to league sources, Deshaun Watson was upset about the new hire because he “offered input on potential general manager candidates, but the Texans neither considered nor consulted with those endorsed by their franchise quarterback.”

He also found out about Nick Caserio’s hiring through social media and not through the team itself, who said they wanted Watson to be “in the loop and part of the process,” especially when it comes to hiring a new head coach. Read more about Watson’s anger level with the organization here.

Deshaun Watson’s Contract

According to ESPN, Deshaun Watson has a no-trade clause within his five-year, $156 million deal contract with the Texans. After being drafted in 2017 from Clemson, the quarterback could force Houston’s hand with the trade.

However, the no-trade clause could be used to Watson’s benefit. It would give him some control as to what team he would like to land himself with next. In addition, if he is given to an organization he sees as undesirable, he could decline to report.

Rumors are that Watson has his eye on the Miami Dolphins to work with head coach Brian Flores. Only time will tell what the young quarterback chooses.
