Did DMX die? After days of rumors, including a flurry of them Thursday night, the rapper’s family finally confirmed his death.
But there were so many premature reports Thursday, apparently erroneously answering the question — did DMX die — that his manager posted a video clip. As of Thursday night, the rapper still was alive.
Complex Music, the rapper’s record label, tweeted the video clip of Steve Rifkind, DMX’s manager and friend, explaining the situation.
“Everybody, please stop with posting these rumors. DMX is still alive. Yes, he is on life support but please, it’s not helping anybody by having seen these false rumors. Let the family relax for a night. You will be hearing a statement from the family sometime tomorrow. I’ve been with DMX for the past three years, so the only thing I ask is to just stop with the rumors. He is still alive and he is on life support.”
Rifkind did mention that the family would be issuing a statement sometime Friday. They did. The statement said:
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-year-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him.
“Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle, and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
The original did DMX die rumor started with a comedian on her Instagram story page.
Rumors Were So Thick that Snopes Needed To Answer ‘Did DMX Die?’
Snopes, the fact-checking site, had to address the did DMX die rumors three times in recent days.
One rumor pondered did DMX die after taking a COVID-19 vaccine. Snopes said: “This rumor comes from an unnamed source quoted in a gossip magazine that has published inaccurate information on more than one occasion. As of this writing, there’s no evidence that COVID-19 or a COVID-19 vaccine played any part in DMX’s death.”
The site featured an article with the headline “No, DMX Did Not Die On April 8, 2021.” But 13 hours later, the story was changed to reflect the sad news that the 50-year-old rapper passed away.
DMX suffered a massive heart attack a week ago. The prognosis since then was grim. Murray Richmond, DMX’s lawyer, told NBC News that his client needed to be resuscitated and placed on life support. Richmond said his friend had been deprived of oxygen for about 30 minutes.
Richmond’s information spawned many tweets asking “did DMX die.” So it wasn’t a surprise when his family announced the tragic news. The music world and his fans had been mourning DMX all week.
