DMX: Family and Friends Attend Prayer Vigil Outside Hospital Where He Remains on Life Support

by Chris Haney

On Monday, hundreds of people attended a prayer vigil for rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, outside of the hospital where he remains on life support.

Along with hundreds of DMX’s fans, some of the rapper’s family and friends also attended the touching event. The New York City-based artist who hails from Yonkers is still on life support in White Plains Hospital after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

Pictures and videos from the vigil show packed sidewalks on each side of the road adjacent to the hospital. Supposedly police had to block off the street as the crowd continued to grow and gather at the prayer vigil. According to CNN, upwards of 500 people showed up yesterday to pray for DMX and show their support for the rapper.

In addition, DMX’s attorney Murray Richman confirmed details about his client to CNN. Richman said that the Ruff Ryders artist did indeed suffer a heart attack on Friday around 11 p.m. at his home in White Plains, New York. His lawyer said that an ambulance rushed him to the local hospital where doctors hooked him up to a ventilator. Richman added that he could not confirm the cause of DMX’s heart attack.

DMX Allegedly Suffered Drug Overdose That Caused Heart Attack

On Saturday morning, TMZ reported that DMX had suffered a drug overdose, which led to a heart attack. The source also added that the rapper’s prognosis was “not looking good” at the time.

DMX’s family shared a statement on his health through a representative later that afternoon. The family confirmed that he was in critical condition. However, they said the rapper has been “a warrior his entire life” and hopes he will conquer this latest obstacle.

“Last night, Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home,” the family’s statement said. “At this time, he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.”

“The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support, and prayers for Earl,” the statement continued. “Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world.  It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

As the rapper continues to fight for his life, his fans have rallied behind him. They’ve shown support in-person at the hospital while thousands more have sent well-wishes and prayers on social media.

The last time DMX made a public appearance was during the summer of last year. In July 2020, he joined fellow hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg in an instantly classic Verzuz battle. More than 500,000 viewers tuned in to the live event where each rapper traded off performing hit after hit for their fans online.
