DMX Has Not Regained Any Brain Activity, Family Facing Decision Over Life Support: Report

by Chris Haney

Rapper DMX has been on life support for a week now and has not regained any brain function. Therefore, his family may be forced to make some extremely difficult decisions in the near future.

Previous reports stated that DMX – real name Earl Simmons – allegedly suffered an overdose, which led to a heart attack. Furthermore, by the time he received medical treatment, he had next to no brain function following oxygen deprivation for almost half an hour.

Since last Friday night, the rapper’s health has not improved as he remains in a coma. On Wednesday, a source told TMZ that various medical tests showed no improvement in his brain activity. The source claims that the test results were “not good.”

The TMZ report also states that DMX’s family has requested Steve Rifkind’s presence. Rifkind is the rapper’s longtime friend and manager who they contacted in hopes that he could fly to New York on Friday. Earlier in the week, his manager spoke with TMZ. He said upcoming test results would be vital and that “the family would determine what’s best from there.”

It is unclear when DMX’s family will make any medical decisions for their loved one. They’re obviously making sure they have all the facts before making such a gut-wrenching call. However, since the family asked Rifkind to fly in, that could mean they’re close to making a difficult decision that no family wants to make.

DMX’s Family and Friends Attend Prayer Vigil Outside of Hospital

On Monday, hundreds of people gathered to pray for DMX outside of the hospital where he remains on life support.

Along with all of his fans, some of the rapper’s family and friends also attended the prayer vigil. The Yonkers, New York-based artist is still on life support in White Plains Hospital after his supposed drug overdose and heart attack.

Pictures and videos from the vigil capture packed sidewalks on each side of the road outside of the hospital. Police at the scene were forced to block off the street as the fans continued to gather at the touching event. According to CNN, upwards of 500 people showed up to pray for DMX and show their support for the rapper.

In addition, DMX’s attorney Murray Richman confirmed details about his client to CNN. Richman said that the Ruff Ryders artist did indeed suffer a heart attack on Friday around 11 p.m. at his home in White Plains, New York. His lawyer said that an ambulance rushed him to the local hospital where doctors hooked him up to a ventilator. Richman added that he could not confirm the cause of DMX’s heart attack.
