Dog the Bounty Hunter said Brian Laundrie may have become a killer because of the “dark side” books he read. The former reality TV star said he believes the 23-year-old “built himself” into a killer by looking at books that included images of demons and blood. The FBI is looking to question Laundrie about the strangulation death of his fiancee, Gabby Petito. He’s been missing or on the run from police for more than a month

The theory is another wild accusation from Dog the Bounty Hunter about Brian Laundrie without any substantiating evidence. Dog, whose real name is Duane Chapman, explained his “dark side” book idea to The Sun.

“This kid Brian has taken those books, obviously, to heart,” he said. “And this is what happens when your kid is looking at those kinds of things, catches on, and it’s demons, and it’s blood, and it’s this and it’s that, look what that led to.

“He overnight just didn’t become a killer. A killer is made, and he is built to be a killer. He built himself to be that by looking at that kind of, let’s say, the dark side stuff, and I call it what it was, demonic. There are pictures of demons all over it.”

Brian Laundrie wrote on Instagram that he and Gabby Petito read the novel Lullaby aloud to one another and Rant. Chuck Palahniuk, who wrote Fight Club, penned both novels.

It’s unclear if Dog the Bounty Hunter read these novels or what other “dark books” he could be referring to. Dog said his wife Francie discovered references to them in Laundrie’s social media posts.

“The books he read are unbelievable,” Dog has said before. “This kid Brian has taken those books, obviously, to heart.”

Is Dog the Bounty Hunter Pitching Brian Laundrie Manhunt Show?

Since Dog the Bounty Hunter joined the search for Brian Laundrie, detractors say he is only seeking publicity. That claim intensified after reports surfaced that he was trying to get a reality show about his hunt for the wanted fugitive. Though, The Wrap reported that several networks “immediately passed” on the idea, including A&E, which produced Dog’s first reality show for nine years.

Dog the Bounty Hunter pushed back at claims that he was trying to get a reality show.

“Anything about us ever going to A&E, that is a lie,” he told The Sun. “Will this search cause us to get a show? I doubt it.”

Though, if he wanted one, it would be easy to get, he continued. But he said his team isn’t large enough to film a show like that.

“You guys know shooting a show, you get three camera guys, at least two sound guys, a producer, a showrunner, and a light guy,” he said. “We got Francie herself. And my brother Nick, who’s been with me many years.”

Dog is one of the hundreds of people searching for Brian Laundrie in several different spots in Florida. No one has seen him since he left his parents’ home on Sept. 14. He packed a bag and said he wanted to go hiking in a nearby nature preserve. Gabby Petito was killed while on a cross-country trip with Laundrie. FBI agents found her body in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming last month.
