Dolly Parton Releasing Christmas Album, and the Name Is Perfect

Dolly Parton will be releasing her first Christmas album in thirty years, A Holly Dolly Christmas.

All About ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’

The Queen of Country spoke with Billboard to make the big announcement. The record will be released via her own record label, Butterfly Records in partnership with 12Tone Music Group. The album will be produced by Kent Wells and the first single off of the record will be “Cuddle Up Cozy Down Christmas” featuring Michael Bublé.

The album will be star-studded featuring collaborations with Bublé, Billy Ray Cyrus, her goddaughter Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon and Willie Nelson. Her brother, Randy Parton, will also be featured on the holiday release.

Most of the collaborators performed their recordings separately from Parton due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“We were working in our little circle with our masks and with our gloves and we had our engineer and we just had the very few people that we had to have when we were in there when I was singing,” she revealed.

A Holly Dolly Christmas has been in the works for a while but was delayed by her Netflix series, Dumplin. What can fans expect from the album? A mixture of old classic tunes paired with a modern flair, like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas.”

What Dolly Parton Had to Say About the Christmas Album

“I thought, ‘I think I’ll call it A Holly Dolly Christmas because I love the song ‘A Holly Jolly Christmas’ with Burl Ives,” she told the outlet. “He used to be on all of my Christmas specials all through the years. I think of him as Mr. Christmas. I thought, ‘Why don’t do I call it something cute and clever, like that or Deck the Halls with Boughs of Dolly, something corny like that.’”

Her collaboration with Nelson is sure to be one of the stand out favorites amongst country fans. “One of my favorite songs ever is a traditional song now that Willie Nelson wrote called ‘Pretty Paper,’” she added. She made it into an “old-timey” version.

Fallon previously asked Parton to perform Carey’s iconic Christmas classic. She admitted that she didn’t know the song at the time. “So I went and learned it and I was just going to put it on my album and then I went, ‘I’ll ask Jimmy Fallon to sing it with me!’” she shared. “And he said, yes. So I’m really excited about that.”
