Christmas came early this year for Dolly Parton. The country music superstar’s latest album, “A Holly Dolly Christmas,” debuted on the top of Billboard’s Country Albums and Top Holiday Albums.
“I am so proud and humbled to have my album reach No. 1 on the Billboard country and holiday charts,” Parton said according to Billboard. “Boy, what a great early Christmas present for me! Thanks to Billboard and the fans.”
According to Nielsen Music/MRC data, “A Holly Dolly Christmas” sold more than 26,000 sales in its first week ending Oct. 8.
This is Parton’s eighth album to reach No. 1 on the Top Country Album charts.
This is her first Christmas album in more than 30 years. It features duets with Michael Bublé, Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon, and Willie Nelson. She also has a duet with her brother, Randy, who she calls the family’s “Christmas baby.”
This is Parton’s third Christmas album of her career, Billboard says. She released “Home for Christmas” in 1990 and “Once Upon a Christmas” with Kenny Rogers in 1985.
Dolly Parton unseats Carrie Underwood
This is the second week in a row a Christmas album has debuted at the top of Billboard’s Country Album chart, Billboard said. Last week, Carrie Underwood’s “My Gift” sat atop that chart with 43,000 units sold.
“My Gift” is Underwood’s first full-length Christmas album. It features classic holiday songs as well as some originals. She collaborated with fellow singer John Legend on one song. She also invited her 5-year-old son, Isaiah, to sing on “Little Drummer Boy.”
Both Underwood and Parton also have Christmas specials to go along with their holiday albums.
Parton stars in a new Christmas special that will be released on Netflix on Nov. 22. The film is titled “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on The Square.” The movie also stars Christine Baranski, Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams, and Jeanine Mason. It will feature 14 original songs by the legend herself.
Carrie Underwood will star in a Christmas Special on HBO Max, Deadline reported, where she will perform songs from her latest album. A live orchestra and choir will accompany Underwood in the special.
“The journey of writing and recording this album started last year when I finished my tour and we could have never anticipated the circumstances we would be in this year,” Underwood told the site. “Creating this album has been good for my heart, and I’m thrilled to get to share it with the world and to bring it to life with Playtone and HBO Max.”
