Halloween came early to the White House. Donald and Melania Trump hosted skeletons, T-Rex, and even a miniature version of themselves. The president and first lady held their fourth annual Halloween event on Oct. 25.
The Trumps welcomed the families of both frontline workers and military members to spend the afternoon at the White House. In years past, both the president and first lady handed out candy to visiting children. But this year, organizers incorporated a no-touch policy for candy delivery.
Previously, Melania publicly invited the families via a Twitter post. She wrote, “On Sunday, @POTUS & I will safely welcome frontline workers, military families, schoolchildren & trick-or-treaters for the annual @WhiteHouse #Halloween celebration. We look forward to seeing all of you for this year’s festivities!”

Both Donald and Melania Trump were on site to greet children and their families. According to a press release, organizers made face masks mandatory for guests over age 2. Additionally, White House personnel wore masks and gloves when distributing candy. Organizers also encouraged social distancing in precaution against the COVID-19 virus.
Neither the president nor the first lady appears to have worn a mask during the event. In early October, both Trumps tested positive for COVID-19 but have recovered in the weeks since. The pair stood on the South Lawn and greeted a variety of trick-or-treaters. The president was “particularly pleased” by the pair of kids dressed as both him and Melania. The miniature Donald wore a blonde wig and a suit while Melania’s cosplayer opted for a white dress.
Organizers redecorated the White House lawn to match the spooky holiday. Blossoming chrysanthemums covered the East and West staircases. Meanwhile, pumpkins and an assortment of leaves littered the grounds. Several departments held activities for children, and the Air Force provided a live band.
The event ran on Oct. 25 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the South Lawn of the White House.
