Donald Trump is addressing the shooting of Jacob Blake, comparing the police officers in the situation to golfers who “choke” on a short putt. The President spoke out about the incident during an interview on Monday evening.
While making an appearance on The Ingraham Angle, President Trump talked with host Laura Ingraham about last month’s shooting in Kenosha, WI. He began by calling into question the officers’ actions who shot Blake, a Black man. “They can do 10,000 great acts, which is what they do, and one bad apple – or a choker, you know, a choker, they choke – shooting the guy in the back many times,” Trump said.
The President then criticized the officer for shooting Blake multiple times. “I mean, couldn’t you have done something different? Couldn’t you have wrestled him?” Trump said. “You know, I mean, in the meantime he might have been going for a weapon and, you know, there’s a whole big thing there.”
President Trump then equated the situation to golf. “But they choke, just like in a golf tournament, they miss a 3-foot putt,” Trump said. Ingraham interjected saying, “You’re not comparing it to golf, because that’s what the media would say.”
In response, the President said, “No, I’m saying people choke. People choke. And people are bad people. You have both. You have some bad people and you have – they choke.”
President Donald Trump then called attention the speed at which police officers need to make decisions. “You could be a police officer for 15 years and, all of a sudden, you’re confronted,” he said. “You’ve got a quarter of a second to make a decision. If you don’t make the decision and you’re wrong, you’re dead.”
On Tuesday, President Trump plans to visit Kenosha, WI. He reportedly hopes to speak with law enforcement and local officials.
