President Donald Trump and daughter/White House Advisor Ivanka Trump previously donated to Kamala Harris’ past campaigns as private citizens. The news surfaced after Harris was revealed to be Presidential Candidate Joe Biden’s vice presidential running mate.
Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump’s Donations to Kamala Harris
The vice-presidential candidate originally served as California’s attorney general from 2011-2017. Shortly after, she was elected into the Senate.
According to USA Today and the California Secretary of State website, both Ivanka and Donald donated to Harris on separate occasions. The data shows that Donald donated $5,000 in 2011 during her first run for California’s attorney general. He donated $1,000 in 2013 for her re-election campaign. Similarly, Ivanka donated $2,000 for her re-election campaign in 2014. Just one year later in 2015, Donald declared his intent to run for President of the United States.
What Kamala Harris’ Team Had to Say
A spokesman for Harris told The Sacramento Bee that she did not keep her 2011 and 2013 contributions.
Harris donated the $6,000 that Donald donated to a “nonprofit that advocates for civil and human rights for Central Americans.” The donation was not made until she won her re-election for attorney general in 2015.
Trump’s Response
In an affidavit signed by Donald, The Washington Examiner reported that the Trumps made the donations at the request of former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
“Mr. Schneiderman’s former transition committee leader asked my daughter Ivanka if she would arrange for me to make a contribution to a fundraising event sponsored by Mr. Schneiderman for newly elected California Attorney General Kamala Harris,” the affidavit read. “In response, I made a $5,000 contribution to Ms. Harris’ campaign — the highest level of sponsorship listed in the invitation — and Ivanka attended the event together with some of Trump Org.’s other top executives.”
Donald’s campaign released a statement regarding his running mates. “Not long ago, Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist,” the statement read. “And asked for an apology she never received. Clearly, phony Kamala will abandon her own morals in order to appease the anti-police extremists controlling the Democrat Party.”
