President Donald Trump sent his well wishes to Ron Paul following the former representative’s collapse and hospitalization on Friday.
In a tweet from his hospital bed, Paul tweeted “I am doing fine. Thank you for your concern.” Trump responded Saturday morning.
“Great!” the president tweeted in reply.
President Donald Trump and Paul haven’t always seen eye to eye on every issue, though they have seemingly gotten along in public.
Ron Paul’s son Sen. Rand Paul also tweeted out to thank supporters.
“Thank God, Dad is doing well. Thank you for all your prayers today,” he said.
Ron Paul collapses during livestream
Paul collapsed Friday during a broadcast of his weekly “Liberty Report,” on Youtube. He appeared to have suffered an apparent stroke-like medical emergency. Though the cause of his collapse has not been released.
The video has been removed from his Youtube page. However, many re-uploads have already been added to the platform. In the video, the 85-year-old former congressman’s speech becomes jumbled until it devolves only incoherent sounds.
Ron Paul’s political career
The outspoken libertarian served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1985 and from 1997 until 2013. He also ran for president three times. He ran in 1988, 2008 and in 2012. Ron Paul focused his campaigns on limited government and non-interventionist foreign policy.
When Rand Paul joined the senate in 2012, they became the first father and son to serve in both houses of Congress at the same time, CNN says. Both he and his son served as medical doctors before and during their careers.
