Dustin Diamond, famous for his role of Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers in Saved by the Bell, has passed away.

A representative of Diamond’s confirmed with TMZ that the actor passed away on Monday morning after losing his battle with lung cancer.

He was hospitalized in Florida due to overall pain, TMZ reports. He then learned cancer had metastasized in his lungs and was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell carcinoma.

A friend recently told The Daily Sun that he was worried Diamond had very little time left. “‘We do not have any specific timelines, but we know that Dustin needs a miracle to overcome the small cell carcinoma he’s been diagnosed with,” Dan Block told the Sun.

Block adds, “We are hoping that he is one of the people to outlive the odds and that we get as much time with him as possible.”

The Daily Sun’s released the interview with Diamond’s friend just hours before the news of his death emerged.

Dustin Diamond is most well-known for his appearance in Saved By The Bell. The late star played Zach Morris’s humorous sidekick, Screech. The character was nerdy and quirky, adding hilarious lines to the well-known show.

Dustin Diamond had a career outside of Saved By The Bell, though. His other appearances and accolades include Long Shot, Hang Time, Jane is Sick & Twisted. He also had a few reality TV appearances, including Celebrity Big Brother.
