The 2020 ACM Awards kicked off with a bang! The first performance was from an all-star cast of the Entertainer of the Year nominees.

The ACM Awards EOTY Nominees

Bryan kicked things off with “Rain Is a Good Thing” at the Grand Ole Opry. “We’re gonna get you dancing tonight,” he told the virtual audience. Bryan later performed his current single, “One Margarita” while donning a Hawaiian shirt.

Bryan sent it over to Church at the Bluebird Cafe. Church donned performed his hit “Drink In My Hand” while donning his signature aviator sunglasses. Additionally, Church was nominated for Song of the Year for “Some Of It.” The award was given to Old Dominion for “One Man Band.” Later in the broadcast, Church will perform “Stick That In Your Country Song” at the Opry.

Combs was up next performing “When It Rains It Pours” from the same location. Combs is nominated for Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for What You See Is What You Get. Later on in the show, Combs will perform “Better Together” at the Bluebird Cafe.

Combs is once again performing at the Opry to honor iconic Opry members Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, and Dolly Parton.

An Awards Show During the Pandemic

This year’s ACM Awards is nothing like you’ve seen in years past. With three filming locations as well as strict health and safety guidelines, it is a full-fledged production and undertaking.

The show was originally set to take place in April in Las Vegas. This is the first year that the show is set in Nashville and without a live audience. The original theme was intended to be “country music’s party of the year,” but is now “a night of heart and hits live from Nashville.”

Keith Urban hosts the 55th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards airing on CBS at 8 P.M. ET on Wednesday (September 16). The show will be available to stream on CBS All Access after the original airing.
