9-1-1 season 5 episode 8 titled “Defend in Place” is going to find David in trouble.

The teaser for the upcoming episode features a unique situation. Someone calls 9-1-1 after a fire breaks out from an explosion at their local hospital. The major problem? David is inside doing surgery.

Could Bobby save him, his patient, and the hospital in time? It is a delicate balancing act as if he runs away and doesn’t complete the surgery, the patient would most likely die. If he continues the surgery, they could get trapped in there by the flames and also die.

Athena reassured her ex-husband, Michael, that she has faith in Bobby to rescue as many people as possible. Michael admits that he doesn’t know how Atheena could handle the pressure and stress when it comes to Bobby always running into danger. We see Bobby’s team inside rescuing a baby before more flames hit.

Although it doesn’t tease anything else, we’re crossing our fingers that we get some sort of update on Maddie. You’ll recall that Chimney is on the hunt for her after she left him with their newborn. Maddie accidentally let their baby go underwater during her bath for a few seconds as she fell asleep. She felt extreme guilt over the situation and was dealing with postpartum depression, so she left.

Will we also get an update on Harry? During the last episode, he finally got his family together and spoke about his kidnapping. He also returned to his home (Atheena’s house) for the first time since the whole ordeal. Will it be smooth sailing from here on out?

How ‘9-1-1’ Got its Youngest Star

Auditioning for a show like 9-1-1 is something hard to come by. Actor Gavin McHugh revealed how he landed the role of Christopher Diaz to Teen Vogue. At just eleven years old, he’s the youngest in the series. When he was a younger child, he fell in love with acting thanks to his family’s involvement. He had four older siblings who would regularly audition for acting roles. He would tag along before he wanted to audition for himself.

Prior to 9-1-1, he appeared in several major commercials for the likes of Walmart and Honda. Back in summer 2018, he got the call for an audition for the series. The producers wanted to broaden their casting range and wanted to find a child with a disability.

“By the time the selections got to me, Gavin was already a favorite of our casting director,” Tim Minear, the co-creator and showrunner of 9-1-1, said. “For me, it was seeing his audition one time, and I knew he was the one. He just came across as so genuine and sweet and special … He was the perfect kid for the part.”

A few weeks later, Gavin and his family were surprised and got the call that he got the job. This marked his first major television show gig. He met his co-stars Ryan Guzman (Eddie Diaz) and Oliver Stark (Evan “Buck” Buckley) in the makeup trailer.

“I just felt like I wanted to do acting,” Gavin added. “I just felt like it was the right role for me, and I’m happy that I got to do it, and I’m happy that they picked me.”
