9-1-1 has aired eight episodes of this season so far, but there hasn’t been much of Chimney after an explosive season premiere saw Maddie leaving Chimney and their newborn baby. Here’s how Chimney is staying a part of the show.

Chimney is played by Kenneth Choi, and his lack of presence this season of 9-1-1 has been a cause for concern for some fans. Is he leaving the show for good? What’s going on?

First, don’t worry. Chimney is currently on a mission to find Maddie. So he hasn’t been a main part of the show as much. But producers are still determined to give the fan-favorite character some scenes even when he’s traveling.

That right there is a great sign that Chimney will be around for a while. His wife and the mother of his child is M.I.A, however, so obviously, his priorities have shifted a bit.

Even though we haven’t seen Maddie, there’s actually no evidence that Jennifer Love Hewitt is going anywhere either. The actress just had a baby herself and is currently resting and on maternity leave. Maddie was written out of the show so Hewitt could take this leave.

It’s likely that we’ll see plenty of Chimney and Maddie soon, at least after Mid-season. It’s been difficult to follow Chimney’s whereabouts while he’s away and fans miss Maddie as well. It’ll be interesting to see how the two of them talk things out once they re-unite and if they can ever patch things up after something like this.

Kenneth Choi Loves the Friendship Between Chimney and Hen on ‘9-1-1’

While Chimney’s relationship with Maddie is complicated, Chimney’s friendship with Hen has remained rock steady. Choi recently mentioned just how much he loved the friendship between the two.

“And Hen knows that if she pries even just a little bit, he will fold like a cheap suit. It sounds as if she is telling him that she doesn’t want that burden of also knowing the secret, but in reality, she is supporting him by allowing him to keep his promise,” he explained in a conversation with TV Insider. “That scene is about friendship and camaraderie and what we do for our friends to allow them to be the best version of themselves. I love their relationship!”

So while Chimney’s relationship with Maddie is complex, it’s nice to know he has some stability waiting for him when he comes home. If you want to catch the next episode of 9-1-1, you can tune in to Fox on Mondays at 8/7 central.
