‘9-1-1’ Star Ryan Guzman ‘Didn’t Know What to Expect’ When He Joined Show

He has been starring on 9-1-1 since the show’s first season in 2018, but Ryan Guzman admitted he didn’t know what to expect when he first joined the action-packed series.

During a 2019 interview with Anthem, the 9-1-1 star revealed that he and his co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt had an idea of what to prepare for. “It’s the kind of prepare-for-the-word-but-hope-for-the-best type deal,” he explained. I’ve been on TV shows where the cast didn’t really get along and just acted like they were friends and family or whatnot. With this, I didn’t know what to do expect.”

Guzman also revealed the only thing he actually heard about the 9-1-1 cast and crew was that they wanted to haze him. “They wanted to do something to me. So I was kind of preparing for that. But as soon as I got there, literally the second I landed to do promos with everybody, they were just welcoming and so inviting the whole time.”

Guzman then shared that the 9-1-1 crew actually listens to him. He also spoke about Love Hewitt. “I didn’t haven real scenes with her this season, but we connected offset. She’s delightful. She gave my son gifts when he was born [and] she had done plenty of other things for my birthday.”

Guzman went on to add that Love Hewitt is a very warm-hearted person. “Hopefully, maybe, later on, we’ll have more scenes together.”

‘9-1-1’ Star Ryan Guzman Reveals How He Became Interested in Acting in the First Place

When asked by Anthem what drew him into acting, 9-1-1 star Ryan Guzman spoke about his first acting job on the set of Step Up Revolution. “I kind of hard to learn on the run. And then as I was doing it, I started to feel in tune with something that I’d never felt in tune with before in my life. Which were emotions.”

The 9-1-1 castmate also shared that he learned more about himself and became more introspective than he’d ever been before when he started exploring his emotions through acting. “To me, acting isn’t so much about ‘Can I get that next role?’ ‘’Can I get bigger?’ None of that means anything to me. I’m ore so in it for ‘What can I learn about myself?’”

The 9-1-1 actor also declared that he is not in acting to be the hunky guy on TV or the guy who is always taking his shirt off to get money or fame. “I’m here just to grow. That’s the sole purpose in anything I do – to grow.”

Guzman then added that with acting he is able to explore his past in order to relate to scenes. “It was kind of my own little therapy. I learned something about myself yet again, so these are opportunities.”
