‘9-1-1’ Season 5 Premiere Date Announced by Fox: What to Know

9-1-1 is coming sooner than you think.

TV Line reported that the medical drama series’ fifth season will premiere on September 20 at 8 PM. The show’s spinoff, Lone Star, was originally slated to follow the premiere. However, the series is now being held for a midseason premiere. The Big Leap staring Scott Foley will take its slot.

John Harlan Kim has been promoted to a series regular. He teased what’s to come in a post on Instagram three days ago.

“That time when I publicly said that Niall Horan was the best member of One Direction… 🤕,” he joked. “Same thing happened when I told @jenniferlovehewitt that I didn’t like her haircut. Happy first week of shooting of Season 5 to the sensational team down at @911onfox! ❤️👨🏻‍🚒🎬”

Viewers will recall that his character, Albert Han, was training to become a firefighter in the final episode of Season 4. You’ll recall that he is the half-brother of Howard “Chimney Han, played by Kenneth Choi.

In a brief teaser, they teased a blackout affecting the entire city of Los Angeles. The quick ten-second clip also featured an explosion of some sort.

Season 4 concluded with Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) being shot by a sniper. Luckily, he recovered. Meanwhile, Buck had his own romance with Taylor Kelly. Additionally, Maddie finally confessed to Chimney that she was dealing with postpartum depression. Finally, Athena saved Bobby from the murderer in a blazing fire.

‘9-1-1”s Season 4 Finale

Showrunner Tim Minear told TV Line that every character is not safe. He said killing off a character is “always an open question. We don’t foreclose that as a possibility.”

Surprisingly, having Athena put on the firefighter gear for the first time was a last-minute decision.

“It’s so interesting. That actually was a late-hour addition to the story,” he said. “The idea was always that Athena was going to save Bobby. But it wasn’t until a couple of drafts in, even in the pre-production phase, where Kristen [Reidel] had this idea of Athena putting on the turnout and literally walking through fire to go get him.”

Minear also teased that fans should “buckle up” for Chimney and Maddie’s postpartum and relationship struggles.

What will happen with Albert’s new change in career?

“He’s definitely going to be a member of the LAFD. Whether that means 118 or some other company is a question that will be answered in Season 5,” he concluded.
