9-1-1 Season 5 has almost arrived and fans were treated to a first look at what’s to come.

Will Los Angeles see a hoard of loose zoo animals during the next season? It appears so. In the first promotional photo, we see people running away from free large zoo animals like a lion and elephant. Check out TV Line for their exclusive first photo.

The beloved 118 will be dealing with a major blackout in the city during the first three episodes. That blackout will lead to a hoard of wild animals roaming freely in the city. During the first few episodes, Athena will also confront her attacker and serial rapist that she caught back in Season 3.

Fans will recall that the fourth season left with numerous cliffhangers. Eddie is recovering from being shot. Meanwhile, Buck and Taylor became official and Bobby and Athena resolved their differences. Nia and her birth mother met up with Karen and Hen. Albert is becoming a firefighter while Maddie finally told Chimney that she is suffering mentally.

Confirmed returning cast members include: Oliver Stark (Buck), Angela Bassett (Athena), Peter Krause (Bobby), and Kenneth Choi (Chimney). Additionally, Aisha Hinds (Hen), Rockmond Dunbar (Michael), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Maddie) will return. Finally, Ryan Guzman (Eddie), Corinne Massiah (May), Marcanthonee Jon Reis (Harry), Gavin McHugh (Christopher), and John Harlan Kim (Albert) are back.

While 9-1-1 will be coming back this fall, Lone Star is set for early 2022. Additionally, the outlet confirmed that a series crossover will happen this spring.

‘9-1-1’ Season 5 Details

Showrunner Tim Minear spoke to TV Line about the fifth season.

He shared that Maddie’s troubles are only just beginning.

“It’s a story that I don’t want to give short shrift to,” he said. “It will end up creating a major complication for Season 5.”

Meanwhile, “Buck’s gonna be Buck.” He teased, “Sometimes he’ll be in a great place, sometimes he won’t be. It was like that speech Bobby gave about how Buck is never going to change, and that’s not a bad thing.”

He is “very interested” in Buck’s relationship with Taylor. He actually came up with the concept during Season 2 but the character was going to be a tech millionaire instead of a reporter.

“At the last minute, I came up with the idea that it was actually a reporter who would sort of weasel her way into the firehouse and do a story on it,” he revealed. “That’s how Taylor was born. But I’ve always felt like there was an interesting element there that works in the universe of 9-1-1 with the media. It’s something we haven’t really drilled down on, or found the very specific unique way to tell a story using that element.”

9-1-1 premieres on September 20 at 8 PM ET on Fox.
