Actress Angela Bassett has won awards for her acting work, including a Golden Globe. But she chose to work on “9-1-1.”
Why? Like, what led her to join the show and appear as Sergeant Athena Grant? Bassett answered this question in a 2018 interview with “Deadline.”
“The big draw for me is that I had this history of working with Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuck] and Tim Minear, over the course of four years with ‘American Horror (Story)’ ” Bassett said. “And each year, I was always very excited to start.
“The characters that were written for me were always very intriguing, very different from something I had done before,” the “9-1-1” star said. “I know that they appreciate actresses—and mature actresses—those with history in what they bring to the screen. So it’s a real love affair and appreciation.”
‘9-1-1’ Star Knew That Show Producers Would Challenge, Pull Her
Bassett said she knew that she was in a space where she’d be challenged, pulled, and excited about anything they would bring to the table.
“As you go along and establish a career, you want to make sure you’re working with great people, or that it’s great content,” Bassett said about her “9-1-1” role. “Definitely having that history with them, knowing that the work has resonated with audiences consistently, I had faith that it would be a good ride to take.”
Well, no doubt that Bassett as Grant is a winner for the Fox first responder show. Bassett stars along with Peter Krause and Oliver Stark on the show. It returns to the Fox network for a fifth season this fall on Sept. 20, 2021. Krause plays Grant’s husband, LAFD Captain Robert “Bobby” Nash, and Stark plays firefighter Evan “Buck” Buckley.
Hewitt Likes Working With Her Husband on the Show
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, who plays operator Maddie Buckley Kendall, had a chance to play on “9-1-1” with her husband, Brian Hallisay.
She talked about it during a 2019 interview with “Entertainment Tonight Canada.”
“It was just lovely to go to work together,” Hewitt said. “We both had never been able to play characters like this in our careers, these characters with dark, twisted things to them. And, so, that’s been really fun for us.”
Appearing in “9-1-1” is not the first time Hewitt and Hallisay worked together. They reportedly met on the television series “Love Bites.” Their relationship grew in 2012 beyond co-stars when working on
“The Client List.”
Well, business picked up for both of them as they were engaged by June 2013.
By that same month, Hewitt was pregnant with their first child. They were married in November 2013. Finally, within their first two years married, they had two children.
