On Monday (July 19th), Shailene Woodley chatted with Seth Meyers on Late Night to share details about her fiancé Aaron Rodgers prepping for his guest-hosting gig on Jeopardy! earlier this year.

Shailene recalls when she left for work in the mornings, Aaron would start a Jeopardy! binge. “When I would get home at 8 or 9 pm, he would still be watching Jeopardy!” Shailene explains. She also says that would open the trash can and would see a bunch of empty to-go containers and milkshake cups that he ordered on UberEats.

Woodley then reveals that Aaron actually had stacks of notebooks and notes that he took of the game show. “It was actually really inspiring to watch his steadfast commitment to learning every single part of the Jeopardy! game.

Shailene also participated in preparing Aaron for his Jeopardy! guest host duties. “We did a lot of rehearsing back and forth.”

Aaron Rodgers Discusses His ‘Jeopardy!’ Prep Tactics

In an April 2021 interview with The Ringer, Aaron discusses how he specifically trained for Jeopardy! hosting. “In my preparation, there were a few things that came up that I just wanted to make sure I had down,” Rodgers explains. He then says that the show is taped so there are opportunities for pickups and redos if there’s an error. “I’m a perfectionist and I didn’t want to have a lot of those.”

Rodgers also said he made sure to ask questions that he had about specific scenarios that came up in certain Jeopardy! Episodes. “I wanted to be as ready as I possibly could be.”

Aaron Rodgers Talks Interacting With Contestants

Also during The Ringer interview, Aaron Rodgers talks about his interactions with Jeopardy! contestants. “The thing I did with them that they told me was kind of like what Alex [Trebek] would do is, before the game, they give you the cards for three people with fun facts.”

Aaron says the Jeopardy! Contestant’s facts are their last name, where they’re free, and what they do for a living. He then explains that the set producer will highlight questions that they’ve prompted them on. “But a lot of times when I read the fun facts, I thought there was something way more interesting [than the highlighted part].”

In regards to giving football up to host Jeopardy! Aaron states, “I don’t think I’d need to give up football for it. [Jeopary!] film 46 days a year. I worked 187 this year in Green Bay. That gives me 178 days to do Jeopardy! So I feel like I could 46 into that 178 and make it work.”

Aaron goes on to add that he feels like he’d bring something different to Jeopardy! stage, being that he’s the youngest of any of the guest hosts.  “I’d be the youngest host of just about any major game show, I bring an audience from the NFL, and I feel like I appeal to nerdy people.”
