‘Alaskan Bush People’ star Matt Brown left the Discovery show seasons ago amidst his struggles with substance abuse and rifts with family members. Now, however, he is celebrating 1 year of sobriety and looking to keep that train rolling.

“This is a little dove 🕊 siting outside 🙂 Jesus liked doves they are a peaceful bird and loving. Have a good day my friends,” Matt posts to his Instagram Thursday. Within, he shares his shot of the “bird of peace” overlooking his city. The post comes just days after Brown updated his followers on a huge milestone:

As of March 21, Matt Brown hit 1 full year of sobriety.

“Yesterday, I hit a milestone: 1 year completely sober,” Matt said Sunday. “For the past three years I have been in sobriety.” He acknowledges that he’s “slipped three times,” within the post, before reminding fans to “never give up. Never surrender.”

Matt’s video statement came as the first since the passing of ‘Alaskan Bush People’ patriarch Billy Brown in February of 2021.

The former ‘Alaskan Bush People’ star’s 160k followers are thrilled to see Matt sober, too.

“God sent his messenger to watch over you. As we are, always here for you, no matter the set backs or successes. We love and care about you. Go out and make it a great day,” top commenter Deb responds.

‘Alaskan Bush People’s Matt Brown Celebrates Sobriety

Matthew William Brown, or “Matt” as he is most commonly referred to in ‘Alaskan Bush People’ lore, had a rocky start of things. As fans of the Browns know, Matt left the show some time ago.

According to his younger brother Bear Brown, however, Matt is back in contact with his family. Thankfully, he was able to make amends with his late father, Billy Brown, before his passing in February of 2021, as well:

“The truth is – it hit me hard,” Brown admits in his previous post on February 19. “Before he passed, I knew his health problems were getting worse,” he continued. “I had the hindsight to be able to reconcile with him and find closure before he passed. Now that he’s passed, I feel good in my hear that I took that opportunity to do the right thing.”

Matt is the oldest child amidst the Browns, and has struggled with addiction throughout his teenage and adult life. This, intertwined with his estrangement from his family and accusations of sexual assault, has led to several relapses, he admits.

“The last time I slipped was on the 20th of [March] last year. So I wanted to tell everybody that… If life is rough for you, or if these hard circumstances that we’re all in right now has caused you to slip, or relapse, or even just to get into a mindset that you don’t like… It’s human. That happens to all of us,” Brown reassures his followers.

In the end, it’s great to see the ‘Alaskan Bush People’ star recovering. All the best to Matt Brown moving forward!
