The Brown Family of “Alaskan Bush People”

At a young age, Rain Brown was put in the spotlight alongside her family of “Alaskan Bush People” when it began in 2014.

Viewers tuned in to watch as the Discovery Channel documented the family’s daily lives in the vast wilderness of the Alaskan outback while living off the grid in “Brown Town.” Billy Brown was the matriarch of the family, who along with his wife, Ami, provide their children with the security and normalcy of family love while living an uncommon way of life.

Billy’s Daughter, Rain, Opens Up On Her Father’s Death

Following Billy’s death on Sunday, his youngest daughter, Rain, made a statement on social media.

“I lost a true friend,” Brown wrote alongside a photo of herself with her dad and mom. “Not forever, but only in this world. Please hold my family in your thoughts and prayers, especially my mother. Please hold your family tight for me. Words cannot express how wonderful he was and is. But I will say, the closest thing to an angel I’ve ever known. God bless you, dad. I love and miss you dearly. You will always be my hero. God bless everyone.”

The 18-year-old Brown, who was born Merry Christmas Kathryn Raindrop Brown, is the youngest of Billy and Ami’s seven children.

Billy and Ami have always been the anchors of the family. The couple has instilled highly spiritual, moral, and intellectual beliefs and goals in their children. Rain’s older sister, Bird, previously spoke about Billy’s role in the family.

“I feel like they’re always the anchors,” Bird said of their parents. “They’re always assuring us that things are going to be OK, even when we want to assure them things are OK.”

Rest in Peace, Billy

Rain and Bird’s older brother, Bear, revealed Billy died of a stroke on Instagram. He said the family will “honor his legacy going forward, and to continue with his dream.”

Bear told fans there will be a new season in October, which will be the family’s 12th season on TV. It will likely feature Billy’s last episodes.

The Discovery Channel released a heartfelt statement following his death. They called Billy Brown a “trailblazer, a lovely man, and most definitely one of a kind.” The network added, “Our heart is with his family and those that knew him and loved him as they deal with this devastating loss.”
