Alec Baldwin is calling Halyna Hutchins, the woman who died in a fatal shooting on the set of his upcoming Western film Rust, a “friend.”
Baldwin is a man of many talents, that much is well known. He’s a successful actor, writer, comedian, film producer, and political activist. Not only that, but he’s also a three-time Emmy Award winner.
However, nowadays his family is laying low after the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins — the cinematographer of his film Rust. In a statement given to TMZ, Baldwin called Hutchins “a friend.”
“She was my friend, she was my friend,” Baldwin said. “The day I arrived in Sante Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner with Joel [Souza], the director. We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened.”
Since the tragic event, Baldwin has made it a priority to stay in touch with Halyna’s husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their 9-year-old son Andros. As a matter of fact, they were just seen having breakfast together last weekend.
“We are in constant contact with him because we’re very worried about his family and his kid,” Baldwin said.
Matthew previously made a comment to the Daily Mail. He says that Baldwin was “being very supportive” in the wake of Halyna’s death.
Alec Baldwin Supports Reforming Use of Firearms on Set
In the wake of such a terrible thing, Baldwin has expressed that he supports reform of the use of firearms on movie and TV sets. The Hollywood star is taking action after what happened.
“I do know that an ongoing effort to limit the use of firearms on film sets is something I’m extremely interested in,” he said. “That’s not for me to decide. It’s urgent that you understand I’m not an expert in this field. So, whatever other people decide is the best way to go in terms of protecting people’s safety on film sets. I’m all in favor of and I will cooperate with that in any way that I can.”
Baldwin First Spoke Out About the Incident Last Week
The comments Alec Baldwin made on Saturday are the first he’s made since last week. That was when he originally spoke out about the awful incident in a statement on Twitter.
“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours,” Baldwin wrote. “I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
