Jensen Ackles, who will star in Alec Baldwin’s Western film “Rust,” mourned the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

She died from her wounds after Baldwin discharged a prop gun on the set of the film. Assistant Director Dave Halls handed the actor the gun and reportedly shouted “Cold gun!” on the set. Meaning, no live rounds should’ve been in the gun when Baldwin fired it. Hutchins died at the hospital on Thursday, Oct. 21.

Several people in the entertainment industry mourned the tragic and senseless death. Ackles, who starred alongside Alec Baldwin, Travis Fimmel, and Frances Fisher in the film, also shared his grief on Instagram yesterday.

“I’m not even sure where to start. This has been a tragedy of epic proportions that we are all still processing,” Ackles wrote.

“Earlier last week I felt compelled to tell Halyna just how awesome I thought she was. I told her how incredible I thought her camera shots were and just how exciting it was to watch her and her teamwork. Truly,” Ackles shared. “She laughed and said thank you and gave me a hug. I’ll forever be thankful we had that moment.  She had a spunk and passion that infected the entire crew from the top down. She was an inspiration.”

Ackles added, “My heart and prayers go out to Halyna’s husband, son, and the rest of her family. There just aren’t enough words to express what an immense loss this is. She will be incredibly missed by all of us who knew and admired her.”

The “Rust” star added that he donated to the AFI scholarship fund put in Hutchins’ name on GoFundMe and encouraged others to do the same.

Alec Baldwin Speaks Out on Tragic Accident on ‘Rust’ Set

Last week, on Oct. 22, Alec Baldwin spoke out on Twitter about the horrible accident that killed Halyna Hutchins.

“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours,” Baldwin shared.

“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

On the same day as Alec Baldwin’s post, Hutchins’ widower Matthew Hutchins also shared a heartbreaking tribute online to his beloved wife.

“Halyna inspired us all with her passion and vision,” he wrote on Twitter. “And her legacy is too meaningful to encapsulate in words. Our loss is enormous, and we ask that the media please respect my family’s privacy as we process our grief. We thank everyone for sharing images and stories of her life.”
