Alex Trebek’s Publisher Appealing Grammys After Being Overlooked in Spoken Word Category

Ken Jennings has been nominated for a spoken word Grammy for his recording of Alex Trebek’s memoir, but the longtime Jeopardy! host was not. Now, Alex Trebek’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, wants answers.

According to TMZ, Simon & Schuster submitted Trebek and Ken Jennings for the award for The Answer Is … Reflections on My Life, but for some reason, only Jennings was nominated. Jennings, Jeopardy!‘s interim host and one of its most famous winners, reads a portion of the book though Trebek reads the rest.

Jennings is also angry over the snub.

“This should 100 percent be Alex’s Grammy nomination,” he tweeted. “…Who do I speak to about this.”

Trebek died Nov. 8 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old. In his memoir, Trebek discusses his battle with the disease and ruminates on his impending death.

Jeopardy! producers said they will continue to make the show in Trebek’s honor. The producers haven’t chosen a full-time replacement host, but George Stephanopolous reportedly said he wants the job. The final episodes with Trebek will air around Christmas, though.

Alex Trebek’s Memoir Chronicles His Final Days

In the final chapter of his memoir, Trebek said he isn’t worried about his legacy or the things he hasn’t accomplished. He’s at peace, he wrote.

“My life has been a quest for knowledge and understanding, and I’m nowhere near having achieved that. And it doesn’t bother me in the least. I will die without having come up with the answer to many things in life,” he writes in the final chapter, according to People.

“I’m often asked how I would like to be remembered. I don’t think about it much … But I suppose if I had to answer I would say I’d like to be remembered first of all as a good and loving husband and father, and also as a decent man who did his best to help people perform at their best.”

Jeopardy! Executive Producer, Mike Richards said Trebek spent his final days doing what he loves most — sitting on his swing with his wife, Jean Currivan, watching the sun set and rise on the horizon. Richards said the television icon died surrounded by his family and friends.
