‘All in the Family’ Star Rob Reiner Revealed His Favorite Movies, from ‘The Godfather’ to ‘Citizen Kane’

In addition to his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in “All in the Family,” Rob Reiner is even more well-known as a respected film director. And with many, many beloved and popular films under his belt, it’s easy to see why.

In addition to his television and film careers, Reiner is also an avid movie buff. And, his taste in movies is pretty darn great. He talked about his favorite films during a 2017 interview with MovieMaker.com. Unsurprisingly, the list of his favorites includes some of the most important films ever made.

“I have a lot of favorite movies,” Reiner said in the interview. So, which films make the “All in the Family” star’s list?

The first films mentioned as his favorites by Reiner were “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part 2.” As far as the third film in the story goes, the director is not a fan.

“I pretend the third one never happened,” Reiner said.

Another essential film for the “All in the Family” actor is “Citizen Kane.”

“(It) is a movie that anybody who has ever made a movie looks to as the Bible,” Reiner said.

A film about the Watergate scandal almost makes Rob Reiner’s list of top films.

“‘All the President’s Men’ I’ve seen 20, 25 times,” he said.

Other Classic Movies Make List of Favorite Films for ‘All in the Family’ Actor

In addition to the above-mentioned movies, a Christmas classic also made Reiner’s list. This film, he said, demonstrates the power of movies.

“I’ve always had a big place in my heart for ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’” the “All in the Family” actor said to MovieMaker.com. “I’ve seen it 40 times. As you get older the movie takes on greater meaning. That’s what I always look for in movies: The movie doesn’t change, but you change and how you perceive the movie and what you get out of it changes.”

Yet another classic film is listed among Rob Reiner’s favorites. This one starred Hollywood legend Marlon Brando.

“I like a lot of Elia Kazan’s movies: ‘On the Waterfront,’ one of the great film performances of all time, by Brando,” the director said.

Reiner also said he admired many of the films made by some of Hollywood’s most popular directors.

“I love a lot of Woody Allen films, and I’ve always been a fan of (François) Truffaut and (Alfred) Hitchcock,” he added.

According to IMDb.com, Rob Reiner’s list of directing credits includes “This Is Spinal Tap” (1984), “Stand By Me” (1986), “The Princess Bride” (1987), “When Harry Met Sally…” (1989), “Misery” (1990), “A Few Good Men” (1992), “The American President” (1995), and “Ghosts of Mississippi” (1996).

Rob Reiner starred in “All in the Family” as Michael “Meathead” Stivic from 1971 until 1978. He is the son of the legendary comedic actor Carl Reiner. Carl Reiner created the famous “Dick Van Dyke Show” and also acted in the series.
