Alyssa Milano Speaks Out About Potentially Running for Congress in 2024

Alyssa Milano, the actress-turned-activist, said she is considering a run for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024. The former Who’s The Boss and Charmed star said she’s been speaking with consultants on if she could flip a seat from Republican control.

“I’m looking at California’s 4th District to potentially run against [Rep. Tom] McClintock (R),” Milano told The Hill on Tuesday.

That district went heavy for former President Donald Trump in 2020. And McClintock won re-election by 56 percent, the Hill said. Winning won’t be easy or cheap, but Milano says she’s up for the challenge.

“I would love to maybe consider flipping that seat blue,” Milano said.

“It’s going to take someone with, I think, name recognition and deep pockets to be able to run against McClintock, and so I’m considering it,” she said. “I’m basically gathering information right now, speaking to different consultants, speaking to the community.”

Milano is currently busy with a Who’s the Boss reboot, and she just finished shooting a Netflix film. But politics have always been in her periphery. She said in 2018 it was part of her 10-year plan. And in 2019, she noted entering politics is “something that I think about.”

The liberal Democrat said she thinks President Joe Biden has done well so far. But added, “there’s a lot left to do.”

She said she wants the president to put forth a gun violence prevention plan and to press Congress to expand the number of justices on the Supreme Court. She also wants to see him lead Democrats to pass sweeping election-reform measures after several states, mostly Republican-led, changed their election laws after the 2020 campaign.

“I don’t think they’re going to get done without” his backing, she said.

Alyssa Milano Not The Only Celebrity Mulling A Run

Alyssa Milano is the latest in a spate of celebrities who believe they know how to fix the nation’s problems.

Caitlyn Jenner is running for governor in the all-but-certain recall election of California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Though, she is polling near the bottom, as she finds herself trapped between two sides: conservatives who are wary of transgender people and liberals who don’t like her conservative policies. Only about 6 percent of Californians said they’d consider voting for her.

However, in Texas, Matthew McConaughey leads polls for governor. An April poll found that 45 percent of Texans would support his candidacy. Incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott only had 33 percent support from voters. McConaughey hasn’t said what he plans to do. But he has started “making calls” to consultants to test the viability of his candidacy.

In his memoir Greenlights, the Oscar winner says he comes from a long line of “outlaw libertarians who vote red down the line because they believe it’ll keep fewer outlaws from trespassing on their territory.”

However, he is in favor of new gun control laws and a strong social safety net, both platform issues for Democrats.

Wrestler-turned-A-list actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is even considering running for president in 2024. Though, he said the decision isn’t up to him.

“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted,” he told USA Today recently.

Celebrities holding public office isn’t anything new. Former President Donald Trump worked as a reality television star before he turned to politics. Ronald Reagan was a movie star before becoming governor of California and then president. And Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of the biggest stars in the world when he became governor of California. He’s not even the only actor from Predator to hold state office. Jesse Ventura was governor of Minnesota for short time.
