Big news is coming in from the world of singing competitions. American Idol contestant Cecil Ray Baker has been arrested for an alleged assault on his ex-girlfriend.
Rockdale police arrested Cecil Ray Baker after an incident he was recently involved in. Rockdale is located about an hour northeast of Austin, Texas.
According to the affidavit obtained by TMZ, the season 19 American Idol contestant forced his way inside his ex-girlfriend’s house to see his alleged child. Mariah Lopez, Baker’s ex, then reports that Cecil Ray struck her in the face when she refused to let him see the young daughter.
Rockdale police note they received a call last week to the house, saying the victim claims that Baker broke into her home and assaulted her.
The affidavit reveals the situation played out as so.
“Lopez claims she wouldn’t let Baker in, so he went to a locked back door and ripped it open to gain entry. She told police he then pushed her to the floor and “struck her in the face with a palm heel” before leaving.”
However, Cecil Ray Baker’s sister was also present at the time. She explains that her brother went to the home to see the daughter he believes is his. The following event she recalled to officials reaffirmed Mariah Lopez’s story.
Cecil Ray Baker fled the town following the incident. He was arrested on Saturday a few towns away and was charged with “burglary of habitation, a second-degree felony in Texas.”
Police released the 20-year-old the same day on a $15,000 bond.
Cecil Ray Baker’s American Idol Career
Just last week, Cecil Ray Baker was eliminated from the show after his solo performance and a duet with ACM’s New Male Artist of the Year, Jimmie Allen. Baker made it to the top 24 on American Idol.
Looking back at his tryout performance during Hollywood Week, he dedicated his performance to his two-month-old daughter, Amelia. He sang Tyler Childers heartfelt tune, “Shake the Frost.”
“My daughter is my lifeline man,” Cecil Ray Baker explains to Bobby Bones. “I plan to give her the life I never had. I want to prove to my daughter that just because you grow up in a small town doesn’t mean you can’t have the biggest dreams. Anything’s achievable. My daughter is the reason I pursue this dream.”
