Matthew James, a lieutenant for the Mobile Police Department, spoke to TMZ about the situation. James notes that Doug Kiker was arrested on Thursday for misdemeanor domestic violence. The site indicated this means harassment. Kiker is currently in jail with a $1,000 bail.

According to police, they responded to a call from a woman on Thursday night after an incident between the two. Doug Kiker and the woman’s relationship has not been stated.

Officials say that there was probable cause for the former American Idol contestants’ arrest after an investigation. He was taken to jail for his mugshot and to await bond.

“Man, you were so inspiring and so real on the show,” said Bryan on video chat with Kiker. “You should be very proud of that, because you really spoke to a lot of people out there. America was just blown away by you. I’m sorry your American Idol journey ended a little prematurely. ut it may not be altogether over with because we are going to have some fun with you. We were so inspired hearing you sing “Bless the Broken Road” in your audition, and everybody freaked out. Well, you are going to come back and sing “Bless the Broken Road” with Rascal Flatts on the American Idol finale.”

Following the call, Doug Kiker shouts some colorful words in happiness for the exciting opportunity.

The performance was filmed in Kiker’s home, separate from the judges and Flatts. This is due to the ongoing pandemic at the time.
