‘American Idol’ Contestant Passes Out on Stage During Judge’s Critique, Transported to Hospital

During Monday night’s episode of “American Idol,” tensions ran high after a contestant passed out while on stage, leaving her hospitalized. Amid the stressful “Hollywood Week” portion of the ABC singing competition show, the singers were divided into pairs for the duet round.

The judges paired up “American Idol” hopefuls Ronda Felton and Funke Lagoke. The two performed a stunning rendition of “Tell Him” by Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion.

Following the performance, Lionel Richie began giving feedback to both of the artists. Meanwhile, Lagoke was seen rocking back and forth on stage before raising her hand to her face. She then fainted in front of the judges’ panel, falling face-first onto the stage. Immediately, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Richie, and the medics on set rushed to her side, but Lagoke was unresponsive.

During the episode, Bryan tells medical personnel that the young vocalist “busted her chin” when she fell. Medics then transferred her onto a stretcher and thankfully regained consciousness. Following the incident, she was transported to the hospital and treated for dehydration. Later, doctors released her from the hospital.

Despite Incident, Lagoke Moved Onto Next Round of ‘American Idol’

Even though Lagoke experienced quite the scare, she and her partner made it to the next round of Hollywood Week. Following the incident, Richie comforted the contestant, telling her, “I know that was traumatic but we’re here for you. We’re family, ok?”

Her duet partner, Felton, offered Lagoke well-wishes and a speedy recovery. “It’s absolutely amazing news. I can’t say that I’m happy in this moment, I’m just worried about her health more than anything.” She added, “I feel like that’s the number one important thing right now,” Felton said to the judges. “I just want her to know that I love her, that I care about her, I want her to be ok.”

Before the pair’s performance, Lagoke praised her partner for helping her build confidence amid her insecurities. Lagoke said their practice round was an “eventful, emotional roller coaster ride for me. It really shook me up a bit but I have faith in my partner that we’re going to make it work,” she said. Both Lagoke and Felton will continue to the showstopper round airing next week.
