‘American Idol’ Dips in Ratings as Show Narrows Down to Top 3

Season 19 of American Idol is closing in on the finale episode. The fourth week of the singing show featured the top four contestants. For fans of the show, the episode didn’t disappoint.

However, the television ratings were not where the show wanted them to be. In fact, American Idol only had 5.2 million viewers. The show also paired that with a 0.65 demo rating. In week three, the show had just over 5.7 million viewers with 0.85 in their 18-49 demographic.

Last season, American Idol averaged over 7 million viewers per episode, with roughly 1.4 in their key demo. So the show clearly needs to change something up.

Since February, the show has lost a little over 13 percent of its viewers. Additionally, the show has been continuously struggling in its key demo population. The television program has lost over 26 percent of viewers there as well.

Regardless of the continued dip in television ratings, the show is still producing exciting stuff. American Idol is down to its top three contestants and will decide on a winner next episode.

Chayce Beckham, Casey Bishop, Grace Kinstler, and Willie Spence had an intense battle during week three. Now, only three remain, and the next episode will certainly be entertaining for those who tune in.

Caleb Kennedy Left “American Idol” Quite Abruptly This Season

When Caleb Kennedy left American Idol, many of the viewers were left in shock. So, the judges of the show finally talked about the departure.

The singer left the show after a video surfaced of him next to a person in a KKK hood. Then, on Sunday, May 16, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie talked about Caleb leaving.

Instead of having the top five contestants taking the stage, only four did. Consequently, only one contestant was eliminated, rather than the typical two.

“First and foremost, as judges, we love these kids,” Bryan said to People. “We get emotionally involved in these kids. We want the best for Caleb. As far as the nuances on how ABC gets viewed, either way, decisions got made and it’s our job as judges to show up and do our best job and comment on the kids who are in front of us. But we wish nothing but the best for Caleb. It does make for a very, very challenging and upsetting week.”

In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bryan said that the judges care about “every aspect of their growth.” He also noted that his thoughts are with Caleb as he figures out how to proceed as a person.

Richie said, “A lot of times, we think about it, we grow up and we make mistakes and we look at our life behind us many times and we say, ‘God, what was I thinking about when I did that?’ This was one of those situations where we kind of give him a big hug from the three of us.”

Both judges said that he is a talented singer and wish him well. Ultimately, it was a tough decision for him to leave American Idol.
