Co-host of “American Pickers” Frank Fritz recently revealed the details of his surgery that left him with 185 stitches and two rods in his spine. The 57-year-old hasn’t appeared on the popular History Channel show since March 2020. During his hiatus, he’s been spending time at home recovering from the major back surgery.

“I had a couple of rods put in there,” he recently told The Sun. “It was from lifting stuff all the time. If you watch the show, you can see who the guy is lifting all the time, it’s always me. It had been hurting for a long, long time. I’m talking months and months and months.

Frank Fritz added, “Finally I had it, looked at and they said it was about ready to split in half, the bones going up in the middle of my spine.”

“They put a couple of big rods up the middle of my spine. I had to get 185 stitches and two rods in my back. I had the back injury, but I can lift. I’m okay.” Fortunately, according to Fritz, his back is “perfect” today.

In addition, Frank Fritz is nearly unrecognizable after the co-host recently debuted his 65-pound weight loss. Fritz has a much slimmer look compared to his heavier figure fans remember from the show.

Frank Fritz Debuts New Weight Loss, Still Battling Crohn’s Disease

“The weight loss is me watching what I’m eating so I can keep my disease under control the best I can. I’m just eating healthy,” he told the outlet. He added, “After a while, I started watching what I’m doing, and I’m doing a little bit more walking. I keep pretty busy around here too, taking care of the grass and getting rid of the weeds.”

Frank Fritz is now living a much healthier lifestyle, opting to eat a more nutritious diet and forgo drinking. “Not drinking helps with weight loss because when you drink you eat. I’m not dieting. I was drinking a little bit too, but that didn’t work out either. I haven’t had a drink in almost nine, ten months”.

However, he did admit to having one relapse. “It would have been a year but I had one slip up, it was maybe for four hours, but it was enough.”

Although he’s made impressive changes, he’s still battling Crohn’s Disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

“I’ve had Crohn’s for 36 years. America has been talking about Crohn’s since 1933, but we have not been able to figure out what brings on the inflammation of the digestive system,” Frank Fritz said of the disease.

“There’s no cure, it’s like a dragon. Every day is a crap shoot. One day I could have a double chimichanga with hot sauce pouring out of it and have no problem. Another day I could have a piece of toast with some scrambled eggs and have a flare-up.”
