“American Pickers” star Frank Fritz has permanently cut ties with the show, even if he didn’t want to. But what pushed the network to make this decision?

According to The Sun, Fritz’s alcohol addiction is partially to blame. Fritz initially took time off from “American Pickers” to recover from an intensive back surgery. But during that hiatus, he also checked into a rehab center in Iowa for 77 days.

“I went to rehab and I’ve been sober now for 11 months,” Frtiz told The Sun this past July. “I didn’t like drinking anymore. My mom was an alcoholic and she died five years ago and it was alcohol-related. My grandfather was an alcoholic and he died. That didn’t sit well with me.”

In terms of treatment, at least 13 to 14 hours per day were “booked up,” Fritz said. He said there was little downtime for things like watching TV or bored eating. Instead, patients spent a lot of time on their own, to be used as productively as possible.

“I read 12 self-help books while I was there. I didn’t f**k around, I really got into it,” Fritz explained. He said he “went there to learn and get the most out of it that I possibly could… It’s one of the best things that have happened to me.”

The “American Pickers” star just wished he’d started receiving treatment earlier. “I wish I had done it five years ago, I would have been a different person. It was the best thing for me and I wish I had done it sooner or I wouldn’t be in the position that I am right now.”

That position being fired from “American Pickers.”

‘American Pickers’ Star Frank Fritz Wants To Go Back On The Show

Fritz revealed that he would’ve been sober for a year now if it weren’t for a temporary relapse.

“It was maybe for four hours, but it was enough. The next day I went to a meeting and I got right back on track,” the “American Pickers” star said. “I don’t think I’ll ever have a drink again because I don’t like the feeling anymore and some of the dumb things that I did.”

Those “dumb things” might be what fellow “American Pickers” star Mike Wolfe referenced in a separate interview with The Sun.

“We all do care about Frank and we want him back on the show. I would love to talk with him again, we would absolutely love to, but he just can’t get it right,” Wolfe said. “Frank is just going through a lot personally with addictions. It’s unfortunate that he’s made decisions that have him the way he is.”

Despite the tense relationship between Fritz and Wolfe, Fritz admitted that the show is still on his mind. “I’d still like to get back to my job, I miss my friends and my people and being on the road and meeting all those different characters.”
