‘American Pickers’: How Danielle Colby’s Love for Antiquing Began in Her Childhood

Each of the stars of American Pickers has a deep passion for what they do. And Danielle Colby is no exception to that list.

Danielle Colby has been one of the stars of American Pickers since the very beginning. Her longtime friend, Mike Wolfe, actually offered her the job at the office of the antique shop Antique Archaeology. The popular show first premiered on the History Channel back in January of 2010.

However, Colby’s love for antiques and treasures began way before she started her job on American Pickers. As a matter of fact, it began when she was just 12 years old. Colby quickly realized she had a taste for expensive things — a problem when you take into account that her family had limited income.

She explained as much in a previous sit-down with Michigan Live. She and the rest of the American Pickers crew made their way to the Grand Rapids Antique Market back in January of 2014.

“I found out that I can have the pretty things and I don’t have to spend a million dollars on them,” Colby said.

That must have been a dream-come-true realization for the reality star. And while she has always loved going out and looking for various goodies, Colby’s one true passion and love is burlesque.

“Vintage erotica and burlesque,” she admitted. “That will always be where my heart is because I think that is where you find the pure glamour of history.”

Where is the ‘American Pickers’ Star’s Favorite Place to Go Picking?

Danielle Colby has spent the better part of the last decade traveling around the country with her costars. As a result, you can probably imagine that she has had plenty of adventures and come across some pretty sweet antiques. But where would you guess her favorite part of the country is to go picking?

“My favorite part of the country to go picking is out east!” she explained in a 2017 Monsters and Critics interview.

That answer definitely makes sense. The east coast is one of the oldest parts of the modern United States and likely has many hidden treasures tucked away. In addition, Colby’s former costar, Frank Fritz, revealed that the east coast was also his favorite place to go picking as well.

And as for digging up old antiques and treasures outside of the country, well, Danielle Colby has one particular place that stands out over the others.

“Picking in Paris is like nothing you’ve experienced in the states because the history is so much older.”

One of the main reasons that she likes Paris so much is because of the deep burlesque history in the area.
