Following the bombshell that was Frank Fritz’s departure from “American Pickers,” fans were outraged. At first, it looked like the show had turned its back on Fritz simply because of a surgery that sidelined him for more than a year. Then, it was revealed that Fritz was struggling with addiction. Contrary to what many have thought over the past few weeks, Mike Wolfe is now talking about how he wants his lifelong buddy to be on the show.
The “American Pickers” star’s back surgery was serious. According to The Sun, who has been following the story closely, Fritz ended up with rods in his spine and more than 180 stitches. The aftermath of the procedure was apparently the beginning of a two-year-long feud between him and Wolfe. If Fritz is to be believed, Mike Wolfe nor the show itself ever reached out to check on how he was doing. As a result, the pickers didn’t speak to each other for two years.
Now, Wolfe is finally addressing the situation directly. Previously, he took to Instagram, posting about Frank’s departure. He concluded his comments by writing, “I will miss Frank, just like all of you, and I pray for the very best and all good things for him on the next part of his journey.”
Interestingly, many “American Pickers” fans took the comment as empty words. But now it’s looking like Wolfe may have had some reasonable justification all along.
“We all do care about Frank and we want him back on the show. I would love to talk with him again, we would absolutely love to, but he just can’t get it right,” Wolfe told The Sun recently. “It’s unfortunate that he’s made decisions that have him the way he is.”
‘American Pickers’ Star Frank Fritz’s Battle with Addiction
At the end of July, Frank Fritz told The Sun that he checked himself into rehab for alcohol addiction. There, he spent nearly a year away from the show, working on curbing his vices.
“I didn’t like drinking anymore. My mom was an alcoholic and she died five years ago and it was alcohol-related. My grandfather was an alcoholic and he died. That didn’t sit well with me,” Fritz said. “They really give you a lot of one-on-one time. I read 12 self-help books while I was there, I didn’t f**k around. I really got into it, I went there to learn and get the most out of it that I possibly could.”
The “American Pickers” star sounds genuine. He was sober for nearly a year. Though, he did add that he slipped up by relapsing. He restated his desire to return to the show. However, if Mike Wolfe’s comments are any indication, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen any time soon.
