It is no secret that Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz from American Pickers are not on good terms. Fritz hasn’t been on the show in some time. However, there used to be a time when the two were good friends. Back when they were in high school, Wolfe and Fritz picked the streets and alleyways of their Iowa town.
Recently, The Sun uncovered old high school yearbook photos from the Pickers’ time at Bettendorf High School. Not just one, but three years of photos were released showing a timelapse from sophomore year to senior year. Their transformations are remarkable. The photos from the 80s are almost unrecognizable from what the two former friends look like today.
Frank Fritz was rocking a flowing head of hair and a slight mustache his sophomore year in the picture. As it moves on to junior year, he loses the stache but his hair looks a little more grown out. However, the transformation to his senior year is the most jarring. He cleaned up with a suit and tie, shaved his face, and got a slight haircut.
Meanwhile, the Mike Wolfe photos show the American Pickers star go from a young boy to a more recognizable look. His smile sure hasn’t changed since the 1980s. His sophomore picture looks like it happened before his growth spurt. He had short hair and a slender face. Then the junior year picture shows a more mature-looking young man with more hair. Of course, just like Frank, his senior photo looks to be a cleaner, older look.
‘American Pickers’ Frank Fritz Feud
While Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz grew up together and started American Pickers as partners, the relationship has soured. Unfortunately, Fritz has struggled with a back injury as well as alcohol addiction. The two haven’t spoken with one another in over two years.
“I haven’t talked to Mike in two years,” Friz said, “He knew my back was messed up, but he didn’t call me up and ask how I was doing. That’s just how it is.” The last time that Frank appeared on the show was back in March 2020. Mike sees things a little differently, though.
“We all do care about Frank and we want him back on the show,” Wolfe explained. “Frank is just going through a lot personally with addictions. It’s unfortunate that he’s made decisions that have him the way he is.” It does seem as though the two won’t be able to reconcile their differences. Fans miss Fritz and have made their voices heard on social media.
Without Frank, the show has gone on. Mike and Danielle Colby are still picking across the country with their friends in tow. They are still paying cold hard cash for rusty gold. With how popular the show is, it doesn’t seem like it is going to stop even without one of its original stars.
