“American Pickers” star Mike Wolfe knows the country like the back of his hand. He has been driving across America for decades, talking to the people and picking up stories. Today, however, he has many people and one story on his mind. Wolfe took to Instagram, sharing a painful photo of the rubble at the World Trade Center in honor of those who lost their lives and those who put them on the line.

On September 11, 2001, the world changed. Thousands were killed in the attacks that resulted from a concerted al Qaeda effort to hijack four planes with the intent of flying them into high-value American targets. Tens of thousands were left to wonder about the fate of their loved ones. Thousands more mobilized to help in any way possible.

“Remembering the heroes and innocent victims of 9/11, and their families, friends, and colleagues in my heart today. God Bless #neverforget,” Mike Wolfe wrote in the caption.

The image “American Pickers” star Mike Wolfe shared is tough to behold. The ruins of the Twin Towers represent what feels like countless deaths of innocent people who did nothing more than go about their days on the morning of September 11. At the same time, Old Glory highlights the resilience and heroism of those Americans on the ground who charged headlong into the chaos. Namely, the 343 heroes of the FDNY who lost their lives responding to the attacks. Not to discount the sacrifice of thousands more, who are still suffering from injuries and illnesses to this day.

Today, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, is a day for Americans to remember and reflect. The “American Pickers” star is doing exactly that. And rest assured, so are we here at Outsider.

‘American Pickers’ Star Mike Wolfe is On a Mission to Preserve American History

Mike Wolfe clearly has no shortage of love for America. The relatively short history of the country to date has provided him with a livelihood in the form of antiques. Even before “American Pickers” came along, Wolfe was operating a full-on business dedicated to the preservation of Americana.

“All of these things in here were someone else’s dreams. They were someone else’s world. There’s a magic to it; it’s magical,” Wolfe told CBS.

In recent years, however, he has turned his attention to some bigger ticket items. These days, the “American Pickers” star has the resources to preserve and restore entire buildings.

“I love old buildings; they speak to me. They really have personalities. When I walk into a building that has such historic presence, it gives me the chills,” Wolfe continued. “All of these places matter for one reason or another, and some can survive, some can’t. But if we don’t try as individuals, then who are we as a society?”
