It is no secret that Ashley Judd is lucky to be alive. The fact that she still has both of her legs is nothing short of a medical miracle. The actress suffered major injuries to her leg during a trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo back in February. Luckily, she was able to receive top-notch medical care in a Congolese hospital. After that, she came back to the United States to get further surgeries on her injured leg and to recover.

In a recent Instagram post, Ashely Judd discussed her healing journey. However, she is not just working on healing her body. In the post, she talks about healing spiritually and mentally as well as physically. It isn’t an easy process, though. In the post, she opens up about her despair and agony.

In the long and touching caption, Ashely Judd says that her nights are full of savage agony. Later, she says that she is just entering the first stages of the healing process. This time, she says is a combination of addressing her physical needs and drowning in the mental trauma of the experience.

Ashley Judd Expresses Gratitude During Her Healing Process

However, she makes sure to put a positive twist in the post. In fact, the bulk of it is full of gratitude and hope. She opens the caption with a Zen proverb that reads, “I understand, things are just as they are. If I do not understand, things are just as they are.” She goes on to say that she doesn’t understand why this happened. On the other hand, she knows that she is loved by those close to her.

Ashley Judd goes on to say that her friends and family are there for her to do the things that she can’t. They shampoo her hair, prepare her meals, and offer her moral support. Her loved ones also, “offer the deep spiritual direction and consolation of trying to begin to craft an arc of meaning and purpose,” according to the post.

Ashely Judd also shares her gratitude for the staff at Skyline Hospital. She mentions not only the doctors and nurses but also the janitor who cleaned her room. Judd is incredibly grateful for all those who have helped her through the arduous journey so far.

Ashley Judd goes on to speak fondly of Dr. Phil Kregor, Dr. Todd Rubin, and the Hughston Clinic for the grueling seven-hour-long surgery on her leg.

In possibly the most touching portion of the post, she speaks directly to those who have gone through traumatic injuries and recovered through physical therapy. To them, she says, “To all who have gone before me and walk beside me with physical therapy, I had no idea. Thank you.” Ashley Judd goes on to say that she draws inspiration from those who have gone before her.

Ashley Judd is drowning in trauma and agony now, but she won’t stay there. Even now, she is clinging to her life preservers and learning to swim through life once more. Her strength through this ordeal is truly inspiring.
