Nicole Kidman says Keith Urban, her country music superstar husband, isn’t too worried about her on-screen sex scenes.

So, he’s not giving a second thought to anything Kidman might be doing with Javier Bardem for Being the Ricardos. Kidman plays Lucille Ball in the movie, while Bardem is husband, Desi Arnaz. The movie is about one week in the life of Ball and Arnaz as they filmed an episode of I Love Lucy. And the rules were so different back then that Lucy and Ricky had to sleep in twin beds. However, they did push them together. Sounds like Being the Ricardos is more grounded in real life.

“My husband is an artist, so he understands all of it, and he also does not get involved,” Nicole Kidman said.

“He sees the show at the very end when it’s a show, all edited together, and he’s fresh eyes,” she said of her husband of 15 years. “He doesn’t read any script, he really doesn’t know what’s going on on the set, he’s got his own career that he’s completely absorbed in. (And) he doesn’t know much about what I’m really doing.”

Nicole Kidman Won An Emmy for Playing Abused Wife

It’s difficult to imagine how Urban responded to seeing Nicole Kidman on the TV screen when he watched Big, Little Lies on HBO. Kidman won an Emmy in 2017 for best lead actress for her portrayal of Celeste Wright. She was married to Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) who abused her. Their sex scenes were violent. She and Skarsgård often wouldn’t rehearse them. Kidman said she’d leave the set deeply troubled.

“When I would go home, I would feel ashamed,” Nicole Kidman recalled in a 2017 interview with W magazine. “I felt very exposed and vulnerable, and deeply humiliated at times.”

She continued:

“I remember lying on the floor in the bathroom at the very end when we were doing the scenes in episode seven. I was lying on the floor and I just wouldn’t get up in-between takes.”

(And) I was just lying there, sort of broken and crying, and I remember at one point [director] Jean-Marc [Vallée] coming over and just sort of placing a towel over me,” Kidman said. “Because I was just lying there in half-torn underwear and just basically on the ground with nothing on, and I was just like [gasps].”

Kidman’s New Project Starts Streaming Aug 18

Nicole Kidman worked on Nine Perfect Strangers last year at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The limited series was filmed in Australia, so Kidman and Urban brought their two daughters and quarantined in their home country. The series drops on Hulu, Aug. 18. Kidman plays a Russian wellness guru.

Meanwhile, filming for Being the Ricardos started earlier this year. Kidman said in an interview in June that the movie explores some “deep” issues with the marriage of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The two had an intense attraction to each other. They met on the set of a movie and eloped within six months. The two married in November, 1940. They divorced 20 years later.

“The strange thing about Lucille Ball is that everyone thinks we’re remaking the ‘I Love Lucy’ show, and it’s so not that,” Nicole Kidman told Variety. “It’s about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually.”
