Amazon Prime just dropped the “Being the Ricardos” trailer this week, giving fans their first look at Nicole Kidman as the iconic Lucille Ball.

However, many fans weren’t happy with what they saw. They claim that Kidman doesn’t look much like Ball, especially when it comes to being expressive with her face. While the trailer promised an interesting plot that dives behind the scenes of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s marriage, many fans were immediately caught up with Kidman’s performance.

“Can we get back to talking about how Nicole Kidman is really miscast as Lucille Ball in that movie? I mean, your face really has to be able to move in order to play Lucy,” a Twitter user commented after watching the trailer.

Another fan also circled back to facial expressions. “I like Nicole Kidman as an actor. But her face doesn’t move and Lucille Ball was super-expressive. It is actually counter logic to cast her as one of the funniest women ever. Nicole has so little comedic timing.”

“Idk how I feel about this Lucille Ball casting cuz she had an incredibly expressive face, and Nicole Kidman doesn’t really have that same facial range,” one person tweeted.

Other fans who watched the “Being the Ricardos” trailer stood up for Nicole Kidman as an actress. But they’re not sure if this is truly the role for her.

“These are facts: 1) Nicole Kidman is fabulous, and also a fantastic actor. 2) Nicole Kidman looks absolutely ridiculous as a cartoon version of Lucille Ball,” one person on Twitter said.

“I’m still on the fence,”  someone else wrote. “It’s definitely giving Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball, as opposed to Nicole Kidman IS Lucille Ball. But I’ma still watch. It looks good.”

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s Daughter Comments on Nicole Kidman in ‘Being the Ricardos’

In August, the real-life daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Lucie Arnaz, spoke with Palm Springs Life about spending a few days on set. Apparently, the daughter of the dynamic duo has no complaints when it comes to Nicole Kidman’s performance.

“Nicole did a spectacular job. The two days I watched, though, were both little flashbacks, so [Nicole] was playing Lucy in the late ‘30s and mid-‘40s,” Arnaz said. “She wasn’t Lucy of Lucy Ricardo fame yet, so it was a trifle different.

This shows that Kidman uses a lot of range to depict the character in the film.

“And I know she meant it to be, so it could feel different,” Arnaz continued. “But boy, what she did was astounding. She’s got such poise and class.”

Unlike the fans who resented Kidman not matching Ball’s looks, Arnaz sees no issues with the casting choice. She said “the last thing you want” is mimicry in a biopic.

“There are no look-alikes,” Arnaz explained. “I mean, nobody was cast because they look exactly like somebody. They were cast because they’re spectacular performers, actors and they can capture the basic essence of what has been written in this script. And Aaron [Sorkin] was adamant about that and thank God. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product.”
